JOLENE

Cake

Tabbed by: Rog?rio Lins

This was tabbed from the their performance on the Free Jazz
Festival, in Rio de Janeiro. The hole song follows the same pattern of notes
(G#m E B F#), except for the groovy outro. The lead parts expresses the way I
play, altought it's pretty close to the original. This is my favorite Cake song.

IntroChorus:

Guitar 1 (rhythm): G#m E B F#

Guitar 2 (lead):

Outro: I don't have heard the album version of this, but they did this
cool groovy outro in th Free Jazz Festival, witch turn out to be
longer than the actual song.

JOLENE
Well Jolene unlocked the thick, breezeway door,
Like she'd done one hundred times before.
Jolene smoothed her dark hair in the mirror
She folded the towel carefully and put it back in place.

Yeah I want to pull you down into bed
I want to cast your face in lead.
Well every time I pull you close,
Push my face into your hair,
Cream rinse and tobacco smoke,
That sickly scent is always, always there.

Jolene heard her father's uneven snores.
Right then she knew there must be something more.
Jolene heard the singing in the forest.
She opened the door quietly and stepped into the night.

Yeah I want to throw you out into space.
I want to do whatever it takes, takes, takes.
Well every time I pull you close,
Push my face into your hair,
Cream rinse and tobacco smoke,
That sickly scent is always, always there.

---6-x-x--2-2-----2-x-x--4-4-----|
---4-x-x--0-0------------2-2-----|
* This part is repeated through pretty
much the whole song. The only change
to the rhythm is the breakdown at
the end of the song. It's just a G#m
    repeated real chunky amd palm-muted.
                 /

---6-x-x-6-x-6------|
---6-x-x-6-x-6------|
---4-x-x-4-x-4------|

* Now the lead is really cool sonuding
and pretty fun to play, you just have
to get the rhythm down. You can alternate
the 1 and the 4 in parenthesis at the end
    just for variation.

--------------------------------------|

* There is also another part I notice
no one ever tabs. During the second
verse there is a quiet harmonic guitar
   arrpegiating in the background.

* If you want to throw in a neat solo or
something just for fun, I suggest G#m
pentatonic with some blues notes. Here
it is for those of you who don't know it.

* Have fun and remember music rocks!
